James Pinson Labulo Davies and Sarah Forbes Bonetta (Sarah Davies)
James Davies was a wealthy Yoruba businessman who lived in England. When he proposed marriage to Sarah, she initially refused. Her family strongly persuaded her to reconsider and she relented to their pressure. After their marriage, the couple settled in Lagos. They named their first child Victoria, as a tribute to Sarah’s godmother, Queen Victoria. The queen became baby Victoria’s godmother as well.
